Ron Gaba, MD, Appointed Director of Medical Student Research
Dear Colleagues and Students,
Ron C. Gaba M.D. has been appointed Director of Medical Student Research at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, effective November 1, 2018. The College is committed to offering an education that includes additional skills such as research and scholarship. We are certain that Dr. Gaba will bring great enthusiasm and expertise to his new position, and will help develop an active and innovative University of Illinois College of Medicine student research program that enriches the medical student learning experience to meet current and future clinical, academic, and scientific biomedical research needs.
Dr. Gaba is currently an Associate Professor of Radiology and Pathology, and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Radiology at the University of Illinois. Dr. Gaba earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan in 2002, completed a Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007, and trained in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Northwestern University in 2008 prior to joining the University of Illinois Department of Radiology, Division of Interventional Radiology in 2008. During his tenure at the University of Illinois, Dr. Gaba has contributed to the mentorship of students and trainees through the implementation of unique scholastic programs—including the Interventional Radiology Research Fellowship/Master of Science (M.S.) Program and the Department of Radiology Residency M.S. Program—which provide pathways for the academic and professional development of young physician-scientists.
Beyond his mentorship efforts, Dr. Gaba maintains an active role in clinical service and patient care, as well as funded research investigating large animal models of liver disease and liver cancer, locoregional drug delivery approaches in the liver, and liver cancer genomics.
